Hello and Happy Spring!
Ahhh...spring is finally here! I'm writing to you from beautiful
Charleston, South Carolina, where hubby Don and I are preparing for the
opening of the American Impressionist Society's Small Works Showcase at
Reinert Fine Art this Thursday. As we drove from Omaha to Charleston it
was beautiful to see spring blossoming the further south we came. The
azaleas are blooming here - can't wait to paint them this week!
There are several events happening the next couple of weeks. First up,
as I mentioned, the AIS show here in Charleston. The opening reception
and awards presentation will be Thursday, April 1st at 6pm. You can
watch the awards presentation live on the American Impressionist
Society Facebook page. Here's my painting in the show:

Also this week, be sure to check out the New Visions 2021 Virtual Art
Show and Auction through Illume Gallery in St. George, Utah! My newest

And finally, below is a new painting I just finished and submitted for
the Nebraska Artists Biennial competition (fingers crossed!). Hubby and
I were here at Courthouse and Jail Rock near Bridgeport, Nebraska, late
last fall, where I took several reference photos. I had intended to
paint but as we pulled up the clouds were moving in and so was the
wind, and then a few snow flurries...so I opted for photos instead.
I've been dreaming about painting this ever since. When you stand here
you can almost hear the voices of the pioneers who passed through here
along the Oregon Trail, the voices of the Native Americans who lived
here...and you feel the ancestral spirits whispering in the wind. And
this inspired the title, "Whispers on the Prairie Wind." It's a large
piece - 24x30 oil on linen panel. I hope you enjoy it as much as I
enjoyed painting it!

I'm so honored to be part of the faculty for this year's Plein Air
Live! I'll be presenting a session on oil painting on Beginner's Day,
April 14th. The online convention runs from April 14th through 17th.
You can still save up to $300 on the registration fee if you register
by April 11th. I took part last year as an attendee and I can tell you
it's a phenomenal chance to learn from the comfort of your home and the
price is much less than you would spend traveling to a convention.
